 Materialistic Sound

of Rahmeh

The project focuses on the concept of using sound as a guiding principle for creating harmonious and aesthetically pleasing mashrabiya designs. It conveys the idea of revitalizing traditional design elements by incorporating the frequencies and patterns discovered through material sound recording. It also emphasizes the connection to the Negev region and the goal of providing design solutions for unrecognized villages.

Mashrabiya

The purpose:

The purpose: Our intentions for this project are twofold. Firstly, we aim to address the architectural and design needs of unrecognized villages in the Negev region by exploring and reimagining the traditional mashrabiya element. By recording the material sound and analyzing the frequencies of various materials used in the Negev, we seek to understand the inherent qualities and characteristics of these materials, and use that knowledge to inform the design process. Secondly, we aspire to create a collection of new mashrabiya designs that are not only visually appealing but also acoustically captivating. Through our experiments with sound salting and shaping, we anticipate generating unique patterns and forms that enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of the mashrabiya while simultaneously enriching the auditory experience. Our desired results include innovative mashrabiya designs that incorporate local materials, pay homage to the cultural heritage of the region, and provide functional and aesthetic solutions tailored specifically to the unrecognized villages in the Negev

Project stages:

We started the project by recording the materials sound and then knowing the frequency of each material after that making the experiment of the frequency experiment by launching the sound of the hz from a speaker and putting it into a plate and covering it with a drum mat and spreading salt after that we would turn on the sound and the patterns that we get is our new mashrabiya design

Process

We started after collecting the materials recording the sound of each material and measured what is the heartz (frequency) of each one of them and then testing the shape of the hz by the(Fine Tuner) and after that transform the shape that we got in rhino and making the shape at the visualizer comand and after that we drew the shape at autocad.

CNC - Mud Mashrabiya

After Taking the shape of autocad we made mold by CNC to pour mud into it and make a Mashrabiya out of it,

Laser - Wood Mashrabiya

we took the shape and merged and duplicated the shape we used the Laser machine to  make a Mashrabiya out of wood,
